Tanaka Farms - LocalHarvest

Tanaka Farms - LocalHarvest

If you are looking for a place to find some really fresh organic fruits and vegetables here is a great weekend thing to do.

Local Harvest- Canning tomatoes

If you haven't tried canning things , it's very easy and I do it as I go. This morning I harvested 25 medium tomatoes and made 4 quarts of canned tomatoes for chili's, salsa, spaghetti sauce etc. Took me 15 minutes to bring tomatoes and water to a boil in a 6 quart pan and 5 more minutes to fill hot jars with 1 tsp salt and tomatoes put lids on tight and thats it. The tomatoes self seal the lids as they cool down on my sink.

Fall Fruits and Vegetables

Home Made Simple
What fall fruits and veggies do you look forward to most? Get tips for buying, storing and pairing apples:

Bee's in your garden

Bee's are essential in a garden. Lavender is one of their favorite flowers and they are drought tolerant and easy to grow

The Honeybee Conservancy » Plant a Bee Garden
thehoneybeeconservancy.org
More and more gardeners are anxious to do their part to help the bees by adding to the shrinking inventory of flower-rich habitat in their area. In return, the bees will pollinate your flowers, providing a bountiful harvest of fruits, seeds and vegetables as well as the joy of watching them up close...

This weeks harvest 9-18-2011

The harvest today. Habaneros, jalapeƱos, bell peppers, 2 kinds of eggplant and lots is tomatoes and tomatillos. Mesculan lettuce and cucumbers still to pick. Yikes
