Roses and the storm

There is going to be quite a storm this weekend here in So Cal. Which is really sad if you look at everyone's Spring gardens. We are just budding out or blooming because of the unseasonal warmth and lovely weather we have had these last few weeks.

So they are predicting winds and hail and several inches of rain. Not that we don't need the rain it's the other stuff the wreaks havoc with the gentle first blossoms of Spring. So I have been harvesting all the beautiful blooms I have. I have 4 vases of roses a few of daffodils and ranunculus and my home looks like a florist shop.

But here is my recommendations for you. If you can move tender blossoms under cover do it. All those seedlings you have planted and pots of impatience or other spring flowers need cover for this weekend Better safe than sorry if you've been planting lately.

Hope you stay warm and dry this weekend. And Happy St Patricks day.

A New Noise in the Garden?

Someone recently let me know they were hearing a new garden noise and wonders if it was friend or foe? After a little discussion I let her know that her noise was itself and honored guest in most gardens... she had inherited a frog.

Frogs are so good for your garden. You can turn over a pot that is

broken to create a habitat for them and they will keep out a lot of

pests. We are so lucky we get to share our gardens with nature so

don't forget to invite new friends and enjoy what they offer.

Butterfly's Migrating through Today

Butterfly's migrated through our neighborhood today and it struck me you would totally miss something like that if you didn't garden... they came in waves of 5-6 at a time.

Gentle wings flapping smoothly reminding me of why I garden organically. I couldn't get to a camera to take real photos so the pictures to the side will have to do. I have no idea what species and i wasn't going to capture one to try to figure it out... they were flying so free and gently that i just was content to watch and be filled with joy.

In all the chaos of gardening and life, please remember to stop and enjoy the beauty and wonder around you.... it is worth the moment you loose of time.
